so my spirit left my body through my nostrils
at the same time as the bullet left my heart
& i rose towards the stars
but the clouds refused to part
well i don't believe in heaven
& i don't intend to start

so if i never make it up there, that's okay
if you want to see my face
you can look up on a cloudy day

so i drifted over the atlantic ocean
pulled along by currents in the winds
& they placed me in the way
of an approaching aeroplane
& as it passed right through me

i left a part of me in every person there
