when there's so many stars to sing about
almost too many to think about
& how can you look at the sky?
& not be amazed at the size of it
when it blows my mind just to think of it

& how can you stand on the stage?
& not fall in love with the audience
even if there's just one guy applauding us
& how can you settle for less?
when the world's spread out in front of you
you could reach out & grab it, so why don't you?

so while you hide in the darkness
& wallow in your pain
i will stand under a spotlight
& raise my voice to the sky

so now do you see why i sing to the stars?

i woke from my dream to find only darkness
there were no stars in the sky
but they had fallen round my head
& given me a crown
